our ingredients

At Shikleli Bāyko we believe that what we put on our bodies is just as important as what we put inside it. So, we pay close attention to all the raw materials that go into our products.

We use only vegetable oils and vegetable butters in all our products, and their combinations and proportions are carefully formulated so they complement each others properties and bring out the best in the products. We take all the care to make sure the integrity of our products is not compromised.

We use essential oils and fragrance oils of the best quality so you will derive the optimum benefit. We would love to use essential oils entirely, but some essential oils cannot withstand the harsh caustic environment of soap-making and so we use blends of essential and fragrance oils.

Preservatives are necessary to help protect products from contamination. The preservative we use is paraben free and formaldehyde free, with broad spectrum activity on bacteria, yeast and molds. (An anti-oxidant is not enough to prevent mould and bacteria from growing in products. So though anti-oxidants are beneficial in increasing the shelf life, they are clearly not enough.)

Our soaps and lip balms do not contain any preservatives.

COCOA BUTTER extracted from the cocao bean is a pale-yellow edible vegetable fat. It is rich in antioxidants, said to reduce stretch marks, hydrates the skin and helps heal sensitive skin. We use it in our soaps, lotions, butters and lip balm.

SHEA BUTTER is an ivory coloured fat extracted from the nut of the African Shea trea. It offers deep moisturization to the skin, and is said to have anti-inflammatory properties. We us it mainly in our lip balms.

KOKUM BUTTER is an indigenous product, obtained from the seeds of the kokum tree (Garcinia indica). It is one of the hardest natural butters and well known for its emollient and regenerative properties. It has been traditionally used along the Konkan Belt as a cure for cracked feet. It has wonderful skin-healing properties. It is a wonderful ingredient and we use it in our soaps, lotions and butters.

BEESWAX (Cera alba) is a natural wax produced by honey bees, and we use it in our lip balm. The mica colorants and flavor oils used in the lip balm are completely lip-safe and imported from the United States.

SWEET ALMOND OIL is rich in antioxidants, high in Vitamin A, B and E and contains many essential nutrients for the skin. It will not block skin pores and absorbs quickly and helps maintain moisture levels in the skin. It helps sooth skin irritations and inflammations, and is an excellent cure for chapped lips. We us it in our lotions, butters and lip balms.

OLIVE POMACE OIL is olive oil that is extracted form olive pulp after the first press. It is edible and lighter in aroma than virgin olive oil, and suitable for soap making and use in body care products. It has many moisturizing properties and a fairly long shelf life.

COCONUT OIL besides being a very traditionally used oil in India both for cooking and in skin and hair care has great moisturizing abilities, produces incredible lather and helps produce a harder soap bar.

PALMOLEIN OIL used in our soaps makes a hard and long lasting bar of soap. It produces a nicely stable, conditioning lather.

CASTOR OIL is very moisturizing to the skin and helps produce thick large bubbles in cold process soap.

GLYCERIN is a humectant, which means it attracts moisture to the skin. It is an important ingredient in our body lotion. It is also a very important by-product in our soap making process, and adds to the moisturizing effect of our soap on the skin.
